- Saltwater will upset their tummies. Make sure you have fresh water and a bowl.
- Sand and pavement can get too hot for their paws. Be mindful of peak sun times.
- Make sure your pets are up to date on vaccinations and that you have access to those records.
- South Padre Island has a leash law. Please keep your pets safe.
- Whether you are staying in a hotel or vacation rental, check with management on individual pet policies.

Lost and homeless animals can be found at Friends of Animal Rescue. Located at 4908 Padre Boulevard, South Padre Island, TX 78597, the facility is open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM. To report an animal missing, please call (956) 772-1171.

The keeping of any livestock within the City is declared a nuisance and is prohibited and unlawful.

It is unlawful for any person to ride a horse, mule, donkey, or any other animal through or upon the beaches or other public right-of-ways within the City limits.

All dogs located within the City shall at all times be fenced, housed, leashed, tethered or in some other manner physically restrained so that they may not any time run at large within the limits of the City. Any dog found at large within the City may be impounded by any police officer or by a duly designated Health Officer and processed as provided in this Article.

(A) An owner or person who has care, custody or control of an animal commits an offense if an animal bites a human being.
(B) In this section the term bite shall mean a bite or scratch that breaks the skin. -
It shall be the duty of every person who owns a dog or keeps a dog in or on his premise or premises under his control within the City, to have said dog properly vaccinated against hydrophobia, commonly called “rabies”, by a competent veterinarian duly licensed to practice such profession in the State by time the animal is sixteen weeks of age and at regular intervals thereafter as prescribed by Texas Board of Health. All rabies vaccinations shall meet the requirements as set in Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 826, Subchapter C, and Texas Administrative Code Chapter 169, Subchapter A.

Any person owning, keeping, possessing or harboring any dog or cat shall promptly remove and dispose of all feces left by the dog or cat on any public property and on any private property not owned by such person or lawfully occupied by such person.

It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to keep or harbor any dog which habitually barks, howls or yelps, or any cat which habitually cries or howls to the great discomfort of the peace and quiet of the neighborhood, or in such manner as to materially disturb or annoy persons in the neighborhood who are of ordinary sensibilities. Such dogs and cats are hereby declared to be a public nuisance.
