South Padre Island Activities And Attractions
No matter what kind of fun you’re looking for, South Padre Island delivers. The unique experiences we offer will create memories for you and your family that last forever, whether you’re out on the water all day long or exploring shoreline.
Love What You Love More on Your Island
Many visitors come to our island for an up close and personal experience with wildlife, and the many species of native birds, fish, mammals, and ocean creatures never disappoint. Small groups can venture out on dolphin tours in the bay, and anyone can explore the island’s well-kept boardwalks, Laguna Madre Nature Trail, or the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center on their own. Summer visitors to the island will love attending scheduled releases of tiny, endangered sea turtles venturing out into the ocean for the very first time. If you enjoy snorkeling or scuba diving, you can explore the mysterious blue depths of the “Texas Riviera” territory of the Spanish Galleons, once home to pirates of the Devil’s Elbow. Of course, a sunset cruise on one of many catamarans will let you enjoy the beauty of the bay from the comfort of your deck chair, and you can even stay out on the water late into the evening and watch the fireworks. You can also charter a boat to take you fishing; whether you stay in the bay or venture out into the deep sea, local restaurants are happy to fry up your catch for a small fee.
Perhaps you’re searching for the arts on South Padre Island. If so, you need look no further than the wide variety of classes in painting and pottery at Art Space, or duck into an afternoon movie at the Island Cinema. Families with children visiting the island have an incredible range of activities to choose from. Those who prefer relaxing pursuits can select from sandcastle lessons, horseback riding on the beach, a petting barn at Island Adventure Park, flying a new kite from B&S Kites, and golfing at the South Padre Island Golf Club. Of course, there’s much wilder fun like the 13 slides at the Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark or mini golf, go karts, a rocket, and a slingshot at Gravity Park. Families with older children or teens will enjoy the many watersports available here: try flyboarding, ziplining, tandem skydiving with world record holders and national champions, surfing, kiteboarding, driving ATVs, stand-up paddleboarding, parasailing, and jet skiing. Whether it’s fun on the beach, bay or deep sea fishing, watching dolphins and sea turtles up close, taking sandcastle lessons, splashing around at Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark, or taking on water sports of almost every kind imaginable, there’s always an adventure waiting for you on your island.
