SPI hosts First Ever Bloggers Takeover

Texas Travel Bloggers Take Over South Padre Island

Is your destination family-friendly? We’re pretty sure that South Padre Island is great for families, but we thought we’d put it to the test with some VERY discerning travel families. After hosting 13 bloggers and their families to “takeover” South Padre Island last weekend, we can say –for sure – that we ARE!

We partnered with the team at Texas Travel Talk to bring the top travel bloggers in the Lone Star State here with their families to experience everything the Island has to offer.

From the moment they hit the Queen Isabella Causeway on Friday night, they posted, tweeted, snapped and shared their experiences using the hashtags #myspi and #texastraveltalk, blitzing social media channels all over the state.

Starting from the South Padre Island backdrop at the end of the causeway, they showcased their experience to their combined fan and follower bases of more than 1.5 million.

Their Friday night activities included fireworks cruises hosted by the team at Osprey Cruises and checking out their amazing accommodations all over the Island. Some of the group greeted the Saturday sunrise with yoga on the beach outside the Isla Grand Hotel before heading to the SPI Birding and Nature Center or Sea Turtle Inc. Others took advantage of the gorgeous morning breeze to experience kite flying or to take a spin in a kayak. By afternoon, the activities ramped up to include a dolphin watch, speedboat ride, pirate cruise, sandcastle building lessons and of course, the beach! And what’s not to love about a day at Schlitterbahn?

Island dining was on show, too, as the group explored a myriad of seafood options at area restaurants.
Even the accommodations were in the spotlight as the group compared the features of each of their condominiums and vacation rentals. Their take: there’s so much variety in accommodation, there’s a solution to fit every family’s vacation wants and desires. Some had media rooms, others had boat slips and everyone marveled at their views and their kitchens!

What was their impression of the Island overall? A definite thumbs up and a ton of “likes” with a promise to make another visit to South Padre Island. Watch for more of their experiences, which they will be sharing here the next few months.
