Once You're on the Island, Getting Around is Easy
Whether you prefer basic or luxury transportation, it’s easy to get around South Padre Island. The South Padre Island Metro is a free shuttle system serving South Padre Island and Port Isabel, which operates everyday from 7AM to 9PM. While there are a number of convenient South Padre Island Metro stops, if you need a lift, simply approach the street and wave when one is approaching. Stops include beach accesses, many of our hotels, restaurants, attractions and other points of interest, and all of our shuttles are equipped with a bicycle rack, are ADA accessible with wheelchair lifts, and offer complimentary WiFi. You can call (956) 761-8178 for the Island Metro schedule and route map; for ADA information or to inquire about ADA paratransit services, you may contact Public Works at (956) 761-1025.
If you prefer to renting a car or taking a taxi to riding the Island Metro, you’ll find many different companies happy to accommodate you. Rental car companies on the island include Enterprise, Hertz, Dollar, Budget, Rental, Avis, and National Car Rental. Taxis are available from A Cab, Airport Taxi, B.B.’s Taxi, JJ’s Taxi, and Padre Cab Co.. For those who wish to enjoy a luxury limousine ride, All Valley Limousine Service and South Padre Limos offer limousine rentals. If you or someone in your group does need an easy way to get around on your own, you can also take advantage of rentals from the friendly local business Wheels on Padre. They offer both single and double scooters, four different types of bicycles, surreys, scoot coupes, trikes, and golf carts, available for hourly and daily rentals. Of course, since the island is only ½ mile wide at its widest point, you’re always walking distance from the wild beauty of the beach no matter where you choose to stay.
