The Fireworks Capital of Texas

As the official “Fireworks Capital of Texas (proclaimed by the Texas Senate!),” South Padre Island sets off a dazzling fireworks display over the bay every Thursday and Friday night at 9:15 p.m. during summer, with the last show of the season occurring the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.

The fireworks are shot from a barge anchored a few hundred yards off shore in the bay and the best viewing point is from Louie’s Backyard in the Entertainment District. The Island also celebrates Independence Day each July 4th with a special fireworks display over the bay.

South Padre Island features fireworks shows sponsored by Clayton’s Beach Bar on the beach side of the Island. Fireworks are shot every Friday and Saturday nights at 9:15 p.m. on the beach and are best viewed from Clayton’s patio, the La Quinta Inn & Suites deck and the Hilton Garden Inn beach deck. The beachside fireworks displays begin the first weekend in April and run through Labor Day weekend.

Along with a fireworks show, Clayton’s Beach Bar also offers live music, every Friday and Saturday nights, plus holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day) at 9:15 p.m.

With such abundant fireworks-viewing opportunities both bayside and gulfside from spring into early fall, it’s no wonder the Texas Senate declared South Padre Island the Fireworks Capital of Texas!
