Brunch Spots on SPI
Brunch is a favorite on the island. Sleep in a little and relax and, whenever you’re ready, enjoy some delicious island fare. We all have our favorites, but here are a few popular brunch spots on South Padre Island.
Grapevine Café & Coffee House
The large coffee selection and eggs Benedict Florentine are favorites at this café. Grapevine also offers gluten free options, tacos and desayunos mexicanos– including migas and huevos rancheros. The best part is that breakfast is served all day, so no worries if you wake up a little late.
Ted’s is known for steamed cheeseburgers, but you wouldn’t be amiss munching on brunch. Ted’s serves up waffles and pancakes (add pecans for added sweetness and texture), omelets and breakfast tacos and, if you’re starving, a ribeye cooked to temperature with eggs, potatoes and your choice of toast, biscuits or an English muffin.
Yummies is an island staple. Sate your sweet tooth with one of the homemade pastries or the apple wheat pancakes. Many of the cappuccinos and mochas come topped with something cute and yummy like whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, sprinkles and even marshmallows. And if you’re not a coffee fiend, try one of the loose-leaf teas. Just be ready to wait for a table– Yummies fills up fast.
The Palms Resort & Café on the Beach
Enjoy mimosas with a seaside view at the Palms café. Indulge with upscale choices such as malted pancakes or smoke Atlantic salmon served with a bagel, cream cheese, lemon wedge and capers. The Palms café is the perfect choice if you’re celebrating or simply treating yourself.
If you need a cinnamon roll the size of a dinner plate, this is the place to go. Pier 19 is nothing fancy, just classic breakfast choices and views of the bay. The breakfast biscuit, a biscuit with egg cheese and choice of apple wood bacon, ham or sausage is a trusty standby. For a heavier meal, try any of the omelets or the tropical waffle– a waffle with pecans, coconut, pineapple, bananas, homemade coconut sauce, powdered sugar and whipped cream.
