McAllen Art & Film Festival Call for Entries

Located in the Rio Grande Valley, McAllen is the heart of South Texas. In an area rich in culture, McAllen showcases diversity in art and all its forms.

The McAllen Art & Film Festival is a competitive festival created to pay tribute to the art of film and its makers. For two full days in October, the McAllen Art & Film Festival will screen independent features, shorts, documentaries, and every type of film under the Texas sun.

Narrative Feature, Narrative Short, Narrative Short Student, Animated Short, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short

Tourist Appreciation Day

The South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Bureau is hosting a tourist appreciation event in honor of Texas Tourism Week from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Visitors' Center.

 

South Padre Island visitors are invited for hot dogs, refreshments and CVB giveaways.

 

Texas Tourism Week is May 10-18, and this year marks its 25th year of recognition.

Turtle Days - Lighting of the Tiki Torches

Annual Lighting of The Tiki Torches! Flotilla starts at Ted's Restaurant at 5:30pm. Kayakers and non-motorized boaters are welcome! Flotilla will light torches along the route ending at Palm Street Pier and a Turtle Days Celebration.


The Turtle Ball

A fanciful masked ball will be held at Club Pelican West this year. This annual party raises funds to aid in the expense of turtle nesting season.

 

Tickets are $25 pp and will benefit Sea Turtle Inc.

Safe Boating Week Event

WHAT:            Celebrate SAFE BOATING WEEK beginning May 17, 2008 with the LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY POWER SQUADRON (LRGV PS)

WHERE:          Sea Ranch on the Island

WHEN:            May 17th   9 a.m until 3 p.m.

 

Bring your boat by land or sea and help kick-off of Safe Boating Week with a BLESSING OF THE FLEET at 10 a.m. by Father Gerry Barrett, OMI, of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. LRGV members will be available to conduct a FREE Vessel Safety Check on your boat. We will also have a table set up to answer any questions you may have about HAVING FUN ON THE WATER. Plan to stop by and meet people who like to have a good time with boats.
